The Iberostar Grand Hotel Bavaro & Iberostar Bavaro Punta Cana

The Iberostar Grand Hotel Bavaro & The Iberostar Bavaro
Punta Cana, Dominican Republic

Our Assignment

Our assignment was to visit three 5 star hotels in Punta Cana, Dominican Republic.  The first wasDreams Resort & Spa which we have reviewed in depth on our site.  We were Dreams guests for the three nights we were spending in Punta Cana. This gave us the opportunity to shoot the photos and review all aspects of this resort.  Be sure to read our review.

The Iberostar Grand Hotel Bavaro…

On our list of must see properties was the new and fabulous Iberostar Grand Hotel Bavaro. The Grand is their five-star hotel and the newest addition to the Iberostar Bavaro Golf & Spa Resort, which includes the Iberostar Bavaro HotelIberostar Punta Cana and Iberostar Dominicana. The Grand is the most luxurious of the Iberostar properties and is an adults only resort.

You can read more about the building of the Grand on their web site…more

Our site tour of the Iberostar Grand was given to us by Daniuska Padrón from their Groups and Events department.

We had an opportunity to visit their gorgeous deluxe rooms like this one.  These deluxe rooms offer their guests both comfort, luxury and an unbelievable view of their entire property.

From their web site we see that the Grand is “an adults-only resort where the very best is included. From the “Grand Star Service” with butlers at your beck and call to a concierge service that’ll make you a reservation at one of the four a la carte restaurants. And the wow-factor doesn’t stop there. The Greco-roman style with wooden decks throughout the hotel and a replica of the Spanish Galleon as a music bar are nothing short of spectacular. “

Unfortunately, the Grand’s occupancy was quite low and as you can see in our photos, there weren’t many guests in the pools, dining facilities and beach.  We understand that many of the guests at the Grand, were visiting the Bavaro, where lots of their guests sat and played in and around their lagoon pool. We hope to be invited back at another time to get a better idea of this beautiful property and then write a more complete review once we have experienced this magnificent property ourselves.

We will be reviewing the beautiful Iberostar Grand Hotel Rose Hall in Montego Bay, Jamaica in November and so watch for our full review at that time.

The Iberostar Bavaro…

The Grand’s neighboring property is the Iberostar Bavaro. The Bavaro is the families resort, an older property, but recently renovated to upgrade each suite with flat screen televisions, fresh bathrooms and a clean and fresh look.  Those clients that want to take the family and enjoy a value oriented vacation, in a charming property, with its lush tropical gardens and native village look and feel, will find the Iberostar Bavaro a wise choice.

Iberostar is quite unique in its concept of building four properties situated side-by-side along an immense stretch of Bavaro Beach. The four Iberostar properties practically form their own village.  Guests staying at the Grand may use all the facilities including the restaurants of all four properties.  Guests of the Bavara may also use the facilities of the Punta Cana and Dominicana as well.

According to Oyster Reviews, the Bavaro is “A quieter, less crowded alternative to its Iberostar sisters (the Dominicus and Punta Cana resorts), the Bavaro has 590 rooms that are all inside stand-alone cottages, each with more space for kids to sleep. Better food, closer proximity to the kids’ club, gym, and spa, and a tamer stretch of beach can make the $100+ per night price jump well worth it.”

Read their full review of the Bavaro and view their photos.

Bavaro was the cleanest and largest Iberostar for many guests we spoke to and everyone loved their clean beach.bavaro-aerial

Iberostar is a Spanish chain with resorts in Europe, Latin America, and the Caribbean. Because of their strong international marketing and reputation, it doesn’t come as a surprise that the Bavaro, attracts an international clientelle, as does their other properties. Their guests are heavily European, British, Dutch, French, German, and Spanish. This is a favorite since Europeans enjoy a four week or longer holiday each year and the Bavaro offers them the value one looks for in an extended holiday.
Of course as is the case with the Dominican Republic many guests are Canadian.

The Punta Cana & The Dominicana…

The Iberostar Punta Cana is a 4-story mid-rise hotel situated parallel to the Iberostar Domincana, together they form one all-inclusive Iberostar resort complex made up of 427 rooms. We understand that these hotels appeal to an international clientelle, mostly Canadian and European.  They offer limited amenities and the rooms, in the Domenicana show wear, the Punta Cana had a face lift in 2008. For the purpose of this article we have only toured the two facilities and have produced videos that will give you a feel for both the Iberostar Grand and the Bavaro. Of ourse we didn’t taste the food, swim in the pools, sit on the beach or enjoy their services, but we will leave our complete review for another time.
