American Idol’s Season 10 4th place winner has been pretty busy lately. From signing a new label to releasing his first album, James Durbin has been jumping head first into the music industry, but who can blame him? Although no nationwide tour is confirmed yet, Durbin played an intimate show at The Rave in Milwaukee, WI last night promoting his debut album “Memories of a Beautiful Disaster”.
After being on the national scope for quite some time, the change of venue to clubs like The Rave was quite drastic to say the least. Performing for a smaller then normal crowd, Durbin was placed in a more intimate setting compared to Idol. Nonetheless, it didn’t have an effect his good performance.
Starting the night off on a high note with hit “Stand Up,” Durbin got the crowd off their feet from the get go, but from there played only songs that ‘real’ fans would know outside of what’s played on the radio. For this reason, or only having one album out, many people did not show up to the show, making it smaller than normal. Many people know James Durbin from Idol, but the fact that they’d be paying to hear the one or two songs that they know seemed to make the show less appealing to some.
Even with the apparent shortage of attendees, the show was fairly entertaining. Sound was great in front, but questionable in other parts of the venue where the band sounded unbalanced and dry. Although annoying, it didn’t ruin the show. Durbin’s vocals were great and you could even tell he was pushing the limits and really belting out some great notes that most of us have only seen on TV.
Keep your ears open for a larger tour to be announced in the future, but in the meantime check out some cool photos from last night’s Milwaukee performance.
