o much attention is given to what a person is wearing, what trends they are following or what their hair may look like, but even the smallest details should not go unnoticed – particularly our nails. They are the perfect accessory to any outfit and can be easily changed to suit any trend or any season and you do not have to be an expert to follow this trend – the multi-coloured manicure!
This is a trend lately where has been growing in popularity over the last few months, particularly during the summer season where you paint eight nails the same colour and the remaining two nails a contrasting colour. With celebrities like Beyoncé, Rihanna and Vanessa Hudgens rocking this modern take on the traditional manicure, it is likely to be a style that will be around for a while yet.
There is no set way in which you have to have your nails painted and the colour and choice can be entirely up to you. There is always a style or colour to suit every individual’s taste. Here are some examples of celebrities experimenting with their nail designs in a variety of different colours and some with nearly every fingernail a different colour.
Beyonce has opted for the light, bright and breezy colours for summer with pastel shades as her nail choice. The beautiful singer is always quick to stay on-trend, or invent a fashion style of her own and she has combined these subtle shades with her eye-catching yellow outfit.
Vanessa Hudgens has opted for a darker more daring look with her nails, combining two contrasting colours. Lauren Conrad is a big follower of fashion and she has taken the trend one step further by alternating the colour on each nail. British pop singer
Pixie Lott enjoys following all fashion trends and her vibrant, out-there fashion sense is clear for all to see even with her colour choices of her nails.
The best thing about this particular trend is that there are no rules – you can be your own trendsetter and come up with styles and colour choices that you fancy. You can opt for a different colour on each hand during the summer with bright, fluorescent colours, or with pretty pastel colours. For those seeking a gentler nod towards the style you can keep your fingers the same colour and perhaps add a little pattern to one of the fingers, or put a touch of glitter over the top to create a sparkly effect.
It does not matter which finger is different or multiple fingers in some cases as it is down to personal preference. For me, I like to change the colour of my ring finger as you can see on my photograph where I have opted for summery pastel colours in purple and mint green and changed the colour on my ring finger.
1) Nail polish is like a personality in a bottle – A simple bottle of nail colour can show off your persona and enhance any outfit whether it’s for a night out or every day work or casual wear.
2) Colour-blocking – As I have mentioned in a previous article, colour blocking is also a big trend this summer with your clothing – so why not repeat the trend with your nails? It may the case that you are a little timid to try the whole color-blocking trend with bright, daring colours but mixing it up with pale shades can be a subtle way of playing with this style. For those who are brave, using bright colours on your nails is a perfect, eye-popping opportunity for you to stand out from the crowd.
3) Dare to be different, it’s fun – Summer is all about trying new things and this also means experimenting with colours on your fingers and toes. During the hot weather this is the time to show off our perfectly polished nails that often get ignored and hidden away during the winter months, so have fun with experimenting with colours and patterns.
4) If some of the worlds most famous and beautiful women are doing it, why shouldn’t we?!
If you’re not confident to choose the correct colours yourself or have difficulty applying the polish to your nails, this is the most perfect excuse to visit your nearest beauty salon and request the multi-coloured mani!
