ermatt, 12th December 2012 – Great emotions and cultivated moments, song writing in the mother tongue, unforgettable voices: for the sixth edition of Zermatt Unplugged from the 9th to the 13th April 2013 at the foot of our local mountain, we will be welcoming outstanding artists from Italy, Ireland, Germany, Great Britain, Sweden and Switzerland.

What a start to the winter: There’s lots of snow in the village and on the mountains, 285 kilometres of ski piste are ready, and Zermatt Unplugged is starting the advance ticket sales for ten bands for its sixth edition. As early as December, at the Season Opening on the 27. and 28.12.2012, the festival of unadulterated sounds is celebrating its anticipation of the coming festival period with three concerts, one each with Bastian Baker and Marc Sway and a classical concert by the Bach Collegiums Zurich. It promises unusual acoustic performances, exciting encounters on the edge of the piste and a relaxed chill-out in the village at the end of the winter season, when skiing is at its very best.

The festival starts on the 9th April 2013 with an Italian evening: With Umberto Tozzi, Zermatt Unplugged is presenting one of the most famous Italian musicians of the last few decades. His songs have been covered worldwide. Stadio are playing as the opening act. This band merges pop-rock and the classical Italian songwriter tradition. Rea Garvey was already a guest by the Matterhorn in 2008, with Reamonn. The Irishman Garvey made his solo debut in 2011, and is one of the established greats of the German rock landscape. It’s also a home game for Die Fantastischen Vier and Stefanie Heinzmann: in 2009, Smudo, Michi Beck, Thomas D. and And.Ypsilon gave a concert on the Riffelberg in driving snow – in 2013, Zermatt Unplugged is arranging something cosier for them on the Marquee Stage. The inventors of German Sprechgesang (spoken song) have just recorded their second MTV-Unplugged live album – a privilege that has not been given to any band before. “Digestive” in the Vernissage: The 23-year-old Stefanie Heinzmann from Valais, Switzerland’s most exciting musical export, is not only exclusively playing her hits in Valais, but also the songs from her third album “Stefanie Heinzmann”.

The Festival Thursday presents the classic performer Bryan Ferry on the Marquee Stage. As the singer of the Art-Rock band Roxy Music and as a soloist, his songs and the stylish and individual way he interprets them have become part of music history. A wonderful continuation of the evening is provided by Mando Diao performing songs from their new Swedish album, Infruset. The Swedish rock band were already our guest in 2011, when they realised that their songs became even more beautiful when they sing them in Zermatt. It may well be that they therefore regard our festival as exactly the right place to present their new album, which is recorded completely in Swedish. We are both honoured and excited to see a completely new side of Mando Diao.

The weekend is getting closer, the nights are becoming longer: Morcheeba with Skye; the band, which got together again in 2010, is presenting its new album in 2013. Do we need to say any more? To finish off, Zermatt Unplugged has had the courage to add a still largely unknown Swedish artist to the programme: Birgit Bidder, who sings in English. With a psychedelic touch and a striking voice, Birgit Bidder orchestrates powerful images and great emotions, the darkness and light of Scandinavia. The final chord is heard on Saturday, with Skunk Anansie. Our wish for 2013 is that the party that front woman Skin drove along in the Vernissage in 2012 will be topped on the Marquee Stage. This should be a breeze for the Briton and her band.

Founded in 2007 by Thomas Sterchi and Marco Godat as a singer and songwriter festival, Zermatt Unplugged has developed more and more into a meeting point for the fans of unadulterated sounds. Musicians and bands such as Suzanne Vega, Chris de Burgh, Alanis Morissette, Jason Mraz, OneRepublic, Billy Idol, Mando Diao, Seal, Lionel Richie, Roger Hodgson The Voice of Supertramp, Ms. Lauryn Hill, Amy Macdonald, David Gray, Stephan Eicher and many more have fallen in love with the “Unplugged” idea and have performed on the festival’s Marquee and club stages. Zermatt Unplugged challenges outstanding and internationally renowned musicians to measure themselves in front of a unique, high Alpine background, completely without studio equipment.

ermatt, 12. Dezember 2012 – Grosse Gefühle und gepflegte Momente, Songwriting der Muttersprache, unvergessliche Stimmen: Zur sechsten Ausgabe begrüsst Zermatt Unplugged vom 9. bis 13. April 2013 am Fusse unseres Hausbergs herausragende Künstler aus Italien, Irland, Deutschland, Grossbritannien, Schweden und der Schweiz.

Was für ein Winterauftakt: Im Dorf und auf den Bergen hat es reichlich Schnee, 285 Pistenkilometer stehen bereit, Zermatt Unplugged startet mit zehn Bands in den Vorverkauf für seine sechste Ausgabe. Bereits im Dezember, am Season Opening des 27. und 28.12.2012, zelebriert das Festival des unverfälschten Sounds mit drei Konzerten von Bastian Baker und Marc Sway sowie einem klassischen Konzert des Bach Collegiums Zürich die Vorfreude auf die kommende Festivalzeit. Sie verheisst am Ende der Wintersaison, wenn das Skifahren am schönsten ist, ungewöhnliche akustische Performances, spannende Begegnungen am Pistenrand und im Dorf – ein relaxtes Chill-out.

Festivalauftakt am 9. April 2013 mit einem italienischen Abend: Mit Umberto Tozzi präsentiert Zermatt Unplugged einen der berühmtesten italienischen Musiker der vergangenen Jahrzehnte. Seine Songs wurden weltweit gecovert. Als Vorband spielen Stadio. Die Band verschmelzt Poprock und klassische italienische Songwritertradition. Rea Garvey war bereits 2008 mit Reamonn zu Gast am Matterhorn. Der Ire Garvey gab 2011 sein Solo-Debüt und ist eine der festen Grössen der deutschen Rocklandschaft. Heimspiel auch für Die Fantastischen Vier und Stefanie Heinzmann: 2009 gaben Smudo, Michi Beck, Thomas D. und And.Ypsilon auf dem Riffelberg ein Konzert im Schneetreiben – 2013 bereitet es Zermatt Unplugged ihnen kuschelig auf der Zeltbühne. Die Erfinder des Deutschen Sprechgesangs haben gerade ihr zweites MTV-Unplugged-Live-Album eingespielt. Ein Privileg, das bisher keiner Band zuteil wurde. “Digestif” im Vernissage: Die 23-jährige Walliserin Stefanie Heinzmann, der Schweiz spannendster musikalischer Export, spielt exklusiv im Wallis nicht nur ihre Hits sondern auch die Songs ihres dritten Albums “Stefanie Heinzmann”. Der Festivaldonnerstag präsentiert den Klassiker Bryan Ferry auf der Zeltbühne.

Als Sänger der Art-Rock-Band Roxy Music und als Solist sind seine Songs und die Art, wie er sie stilsicher und eigenwillig interpretiert, in die Musikgeschichte eingegangen. Eine wunderbare Fortsetzung des Abends sind Mando Diao perfoming songs from the new Swedish album Infruset, Die schwedische Rockband war bereits 2011 zu Gast, wo ihnen auffiel, dass ihre Songs noch schöner würden, wenn sie diese in Zermatt singen. Vielleicht erschien ihnen deshalb unser Festival als genau der richtige Ort, ihr neues und komplett auf Schwedisch eingespieltes Album zu präsentieren. Wir fühlen uns geehrt und sind gespannt auf die ganz neue Seite von Mando Diao.

Das Wochenende naht, die Nächte werden lang: Morcheeba with Skye, 2013 präsentiert die Band, die 2010 wieder zusammengefunden hat, ihr neues Album. Braucht es noch Worte? Im Anschluss traut sich Zermatt Unplugged eine noch weitestgehend unbekannte schwedische Künstlerin zu programmieren: Birgit Bidder. Auf Englisch singt sie. Mit einem psychedelischen Touch und markanter Stimme orchestriert Birgit Bidder starke Bilder und grosse Emotionen, Dunkelheit und Licht Skandinaviens. Schlussakkord am Samstag mit Skunk Anansie. Für 2013 wünschen wir uns, dass die Party, die Frontfrau Skin 2012 im Vernissage vorantrieb, auf der Zeltbühne toppt. Das sollte für die Britin und ihre Band eine Leichtigkeit sein.

2007 von Thomas Sterchi und Marco Godat als Singer- und Songwriter-Festival gegründet, entwickelt sich Zermatt Unplugged immer mehr zum Treffpunkt für Anhänger des unverfälschten Sounds. Zermatt Unplugged zieht herausragende und international bekannte Musiker an, sich vor einer einzigartigen hochalpinen Kulisse zu messen, und das vollkommen ohne Studiotechnik.
