Dance Parade 2015 New York City’s Best Parade Ever

Article, photos and video:  Len Rapoport and Andy Peeke

Andy and I have covered many events and since last year a number of parades in New York City. I thought we had seen some of the best, but hands down the NYC Dance Parade is truly the best. No huge floats, hot air balloons, no celebrities or national coverage, it is a simple parade, one that brings the people of New York together for a day of Dance and fun.

Dance Parade’s mission is to inspire dance through the celebration of diversity. On Saturday May 16, 2015 over 10,000 dancers will converge on the streets of New York City showcasing 75 styles of dance making the 9th Annual Dance Parade and Festival the world’s largest display of cultural diversity.

“The parade route started on 21st street at 1pm and shakes, shimmies and sways through Union Square to our Grandstand on 8th Street and University Place and concludes with DanceFest on 5 stages in Tompkins Square Park.”

Unfortunately, we were not able to follow the parade to its destination on 8th Street nor attend the DanceFest in Tompkins Square Park, but we promise additional staff will cover this event in its entirety next year.

In our video and photos you will see a diverse mix of all ethnicities and cultures, this is a cultural parade, one that shows the wonderful diversity we share in New York.
