International Beauty Show – 100 Years
Each year we cover the International Beauty Show at the Jacob Javits Center in New York City. This show is the longest running beauty show in the industry and was a special year for the show because it was their 100th Anniversary.
Imagine a trade show that started in 1917 and has survived all these years and continues to draw thousands of beauty professionals each year. The thousands of excited members of the beauty industry attend the International Beauty Show to learn more about the latest hair styles and beauty techniques as well as learn about new beauty products, equipment and supplies.
With over 500 exhibitors, 13 Main stage performances, 4 master classes, 14 hands on workshops, 19 hair techniques and trend classes and much more the beauty professional can learn and improve their techniques and buy some of the finest beauty products at or below wholesale prices.
IECS Show
This International Beauty Show is once again co-shared with the International Esthetics, Cosmetics and Spa Conference , billed as a spa and wellness show.
It was their 15th year and had over 250 exhibitors. Spa professionals attend the show to see the latest products and equipment and the newest techniques. This show helps to educate and to guide this growing industry.

My wife loves to attend the IECS show and begs me to go with her there first. This way she can volunteer at many of the demos and at the same time get her beauty treatments at no cost. Of course I am there to take the photos and videos that show the before and after.
MIA – Missing In Action
This year we attended the International Beauty Show and noticed some changes. Some of the larger companies like CHI were absent. Each year Chi had a major presence at the show with a large stage at the entrance of the show where hundreds would watch demonstrations using Chi hair and beauty products and equipment.
I am not sure why they weren’t there, but can only assume budgets were tightened and I know that their participation in this International Beauty Show had to cost many thousands of dollars and it just wasn’t in this years budget. Hope to see them again next year.
There is always new companies exhibiting and some like Beauty & Pin-Ups who we covered at length two years ago was only at the one show. The cost to exhibit at these shows is considerable, so many will launch at the show and may not have the funding to attend each year. See some of our previous show reviews and see some of those we covered at those shows.

We also noticed that one of our personal favorites RUSK a division of Conair was now partnered with other Conair divisions. Conair being the beauty appliance division and parent company.
So this year RUSK didn’t have their own exhibit. They had a larger stage this year and highlighted some of their corporate products too.
Unfortunately for us, we didn’t have the opportunity to buy some of our favorite cosmetics from RUSK this year. RUSK/Conair only offered packaged products that included Conair or other division products like their hair dryers with select hair products.
There were some other packages available too, but for us not being able to buy some of their great RUSK products was a bit disappointing. From past shows RUSK was one of the most popular stops for attendees who looked forward to stocking up on their great products.
We of course, were a bit disappointed ourselves because, we have used and love RUSK products for years. However, we were certainly not disappointed in the excitement and all action at the show.

Body Painting A Favorite
One exhibit that caught our attention and those of attendees was the body painting exhibition. This type of exhibit tends to draw a large crowd at this show and at other shows we attend. Watch our video to see the wonderful and amazing artist create the most realistic lingerie on this beautiful models body.
In some of our past reviews and videos you will see other great artists doing their artistic works on other beautiful models. I have to give credit to both the artists and the models.
I can’t imagine anyone being able to stand in a still position literally for hours as they are tickled by a paint brush while a crowd watches. I suppose you need to have good concentration and you certainly can’t be ticklish.
Light Coverage This Year
We weren’t able to shoot videos interviews this year as we have done in previous years. We usually find a few companies that will sponsor us at the shows we cover. This helps us cover our costs of production. It has become more and more difficult to cover our costs and sponsorship was our way to offer our readers a more extensive look and understanding of some of the newest products and services.
IPA and IMPress Magazine does not accept paid advertising, so we attempt to get support from those companies that attend some of the shows we cover by interviewing them and creating a special version of the video for their use. With social media being so important today, companies loved the idea of sharing the excitement at the show and highlighting their products with their social media and website visitors.
We decided that this year we would not reach out to exhibitors and instead do as much as we could, without some of the bells and whistles you have seen in our past show articles.
Our correspondent Andy Peeke, my wife and I decided to simply walk the floors, talk to some of the exhibitors and attendees and shoot our fantastic images and video clips. We wanted to give our readers some idea of what this show has to offer and the let them feel some of excitement the attendees exhibited at the show. You will understand after watching our video why it is the longest running show of its kind.
