July 31st – August 6th: 20th edition
The Rock Oz’Arènes festival is a pretty unique rock festival. It takes place in the marvelous town of Avenches in the French speaking part of Switzerland close to Fribourg. In the beginning of August, the old town around the Roman amphitheater of the 2nd century offers this unique scenery for a rock festival, the amphitheater being the main stage of the festival.
The 20th edition of the festival closed on August 6th with 37’000 visitors. With 3 evenings out of the 5 completely sold out, international musicians such as the Scorpions, Motörhead, Ben Harper, Olivia Ruiz or Ben L’Oncle Soul and 37’000 visitors enjoying the festival in a nearly perfect weather, the organizer qualified this 20th edition as magic.
Among the best moments of the festival were the concert of the Mexican duo Rodrigo y Gabriela on Friday 5th and the one of Ben Harper on the same evening. The Mexican duo, who also worked on the soundtrack of Pirates Of The Caribbean 4, combined flamenco and rock on their guitars for a truly amazing performance.
The smaller stages of the festival featured artists such as Arno, Solange La Frange, Sideburn, The Lords Of Altamont or Heidi Happy have attracted the crowds and contributed to the success of this 20th edition.
