Tamron 60th Anniversary Model— the Easy to use, best-in-class resolution 18-270mm Di II VC PZD (Model B008) — wins EISA European Zoom Lens of the Year 2011 – 2012
August 15, 2011, Commack, NY — Tamron Co., Ltd., celebrating its 60th anniversary, announced that the European Imaging and Sound Association (EISA) has awarded its European Zoom Lens of the Year 2011-2012 to the Tamron 60th Anniversary Model 18-270mm F/3.5-6.3 Di II VC PZD (Model B008). This lens, which is the world’s most compact and lightest ultra-high-power 15x zoom lens, represents the sixth consecutive year that EISA has recognized Tamron, a leading manufacturer of optical equipment.
[box_light]Excerpt from the Award Citation of the EISA Jury[/box_light]
“This compact zoom lens is an excellent tool for travel photographers, who can now carry a single all-in-one zoom lens instead of the multiple lenses that would normally be needed to cover this range of focal lengths. Designed for the popular APS-C sensor format, it delivers a focal range that is suitable for anything from landscapes to wildlife photography. The lens is small and light, and the main zoom ring is comfortable and easy to operate. The maximum aperture at the wide-angle end is well suited for working in low-light conditions or when a shallow depth of field is required, and Tamron’s new piezoelectric motor achieves near-silent autofocus.”
This marks the 6th consecutive year a Tamron lens has won the EISA Award. EISA presents awards each year to products judged to be the best in photographic, audiovisual, and video product categories. A panel of editors from over 50 leading imaging, sound, and electronic industry magazines in 20 European countries review and vote to determine the leading products on the market.

Tamron 60th Anniversary Project Eternity at a Moment.
The Vision of 60 Photographers. Exhibiting soon!
Tamron is preparing to showcase its 60th anniversary project, Eternity at a Moment. The Vision of 60 Photographers, which features photos taken with the 18-270mm Di II VC PZD (Model B008), winner of the European Imaging and Sound Association (EISA) and Camera Grand Prix Japan Lens of the Year 2011 awards. In this project, 60 photographers used this model to capture how they perceive “Eternity at a Moment” at a given point in time. On August 30, 2011, Tamron will begin exhibiting the creations of the 60 photographers on a special website for the anniversary project. A photo exhibition assembling these images under one roof is also scheduled from October 5-11, 2011 in Tokyo. Subsequent exhibitions will be announced later. Tamron is a recognized leader in the manufacture of precision optics offering a broad selection of meticulously engineered interchangeable lenses for professional photographers and photo enthusiasts. Founded in 1950, Tamron’s passion for innovation brought forth the ground-breaking development of mass-produced hybrid Aspherical elements, giving way to enormously popular compact, wide-range zoom lenses. Dynamic research and development , committed to advanced optical engineering, has produced a stream of award-winning Tamron lenses and defined the All-in-One zoom lens category, exemplified by 2010’s 18-270mm Di II VC PZD. Astonishingly compact and lightweight, this 15X zoom features proprietary VC (Vibration Compensation) technology, effectively counteracting image-degrading blur caused by camera shake along with a fast, quiet PZD (Piezo Drive) autofocus mechanism. Tamron lenses deliver a superb fusion of performance and value, enabling today’s high-resolution digital SLR cameras to perform at their peak.

PZD (Piezo Drive) is a standing wave ultrasonic motor system developed by Tamron. The motor is faster and quieter than DC motors when the AF drive is operated, and compared with arc-type ultrasonic motors, it has an actuator that facilitates lens design and reduced size.
