The PHS Flower Show
We were pleased to have an opportunity this year to cover the nation’s largest & longest running flower show. The PHS Flower Show ran from February 29th through March 8th. The shows’ theme was “Riviera Holiday” and it was spectacular.
There were so many themed displays and breathtaking imagery that this show was truly an adventure. With so many large-scale flower displays & hands-on demonstrations the show was the largest of its kind.
Of course, there were 180 shops selling garden-related wares in the marketplace too. From seeds, plants, and tools, there was so much there for every gardener.
Largest Horticultural Event
The PHS Philadelphia Flower Show is the nation’s largest and longest-running horticultural event. It features stunning displays by the world’s premier floral and landscape designers.
Started in 1829, the Show introduces diverse plant varieties and sustainable garden and design concepts.
Beautiful Garden Displays, and Competitions

There were so many beautiful garden displays, and competitions. The sheer artistry of the many floral arranging and gardening presentations was breathtaking. We were fortunate to be able to meet David Cheng, the shows Communications Manager.
You will see David at the opening of our video.
We never realized how big this show was. We have wanted to cover the show t a number of times but never seemed to have the time. This was the year to go.
The weather was brisk but not so cold that it might have kept us home. Not knowing what to expect, I took both my Nikon and my iPhone to cover this event.
You will see in my photos and video there wasn’t a huge difference in the quality of the photos.
Our Flower Show Video
The video was shot exclusively with my iPhone 8+ and it did a nice job. The less I have to take to an assignment the better.
Philadelphia Convention Center

The Philadelphia Convention Center was huge. It consists of more than 2 million square feet of space, including seven exhibit halls totaling 679,000 square feet of exhibit space-528,000 square feet of which that is contiguous exhibit space.
It is located at 12th & Arch Streets, Philadelphia, in the heart of their Chinatown.
Now New York’s Jacob Javits Center is 840,000 sq ft. of their exhibit space but after their north end expansion, it will enlarge the Javits Center by a staggering 1.2 million square feet.
So it would seem that we will be covering events now in both. Most of our past show articles were held at the Javit’s Center.
However, Philadelphia shows are now on our list of events we will be covering.
Spring Means Tulips & Daffodils
The show had plenty of both and they were truly beautiful. Of course, I love Hyacinths too. They have a truly hypnotic fragrance.

Thousands Of Guests
We were truly overwhelmed by the thousands of people that came out to this show. At times it was hard to walk, and we had to navigate a bit to see some of the beautiful and artistic floral arranging, gardening presentations, but it was worth it.
I have been covering events and shows for 30 years now. and I can’t remember crowds like this at any show.
Best Event In The World
The Philadelphia Flower Show has been honored as the best event in the world by the International Festivals & Events Association.
This event competes with the Kentucky Derby Festival, Tournament of Roses Parade, Indianapolis 500 Festival, and other international celebrations.
