PHOTOGRAPHY

VOYAGE COLLECTION

From April 17 to May 25, 2013

Photographic Exhibition at the Showroom APCd Art-Buvette, Fribourg, Switzerland

photo1Oftentimes before even becoming immortalized by his lens, those whose portraits are taken by GMB Akash become his friends. To show his gratitude he reserves 25% of his revenue for the purpose of giving money as gifts to his Bangladeshi models in order for them to set up their own business. This enables many people to regain their dignity by developing a lucrative activity with the aid of GMB Akash who provides the funds and the professional equipment. He continually follows the progress of their activities and provides additional support if necessary. GMB Akash pays tribute to the Bangladeshi people showing their dazzling smiles, their unimaginable capacity to overcome difficulties and their resplendent sense of humanity.

We are very happy to receive GMB Akash again at APCd. One year ago was his last remarkable photographic exhibition which was supported by the Ministers of Foreign Affairs of Bangladesh and Switzerland on the occasion of the 40th anniversary of the signing of the bilateral agreements between the two nations.

Discover his latest photographic publication entitled “Survivors”, a magnificent book of which proceeds are returned to the Bangladeshi people. It is available in the APCd Gallery and Art-Bar.

photo2“I am a simple mortal trying to follow my mapless heart. Whilst traveling uncharted terrain, I am collecting gems from this ordinary life. I believe, there is a place, where the restrictions of human-made life can tear the wings, where an end may be has many mysterious beginnings. There my journey starts with my camera. Whenever as a photographer, I enter into a new culture I want to indulge in the phenomenon. Every culture has its own pulse, sharing and learning from each other is a significant growth.

I keep recording those treasured moments of my journeys. Thus my mapless world begins. Where the smile of a child is universal, welcoming farmers give a traveler the feeling of serenity, a man busy in his usual schedule freed a few moments to wonder at the camera, all these all become collective reinforcement. Traveling has availed me of a space in my heart and soul which I am going to present as my mapless world to stay for minutes or for eternity.” – GMB Akash
